Priory Walk

Priory Walk runs between Gilston Road and Drayton Gardens.

The houses are mainly four-storeys (plus basement) and are painted in an assortment of pretty colours. They have small front gardens.

The street is very quiet and is one of the nicest streets in South Kensington.

Priory Walk was Priory Grove until 1938.

The buildings were constructed by Robert Trower between 1850 and 1853.

The end pavilions of Priory Walk have a distinctive form of curved hood over segmental-headed window openings, also used by James Bonnin in Harley Gardens and Thomas Holmes in Gilston Road.

The 1871 census tells us that on the chosen day, 12 houses had families in residence, and between them there were 55 family members and 16 servants. The house owners included several civil servants and a professor of fencing.
